‘Suspense’ for IF

10 Feb

I’ve just signed up to do a day in Melbourne with Illustrators Australia. It’s called ‘One Day. One Word’. It’s being held in the ABC Centre on Southbank and will be covered by the ABC!  There’ll probably be loads of other illustrators there – talented ones – so I am a little scared to say the least. I thought I ought to have a go at practicing so it’s back to Illustration Friday. This was an immediate and probably quite unoriginal response to the word, but I’m busy busy finishing roughs for a book. It was nice to scribble just for the sake of it for a moment.

‘Toy’ for IF

Ok, this is a bit of a cheat because it’s an illustration for a book I did before Christmas, But I need to make things easy for myself this week. Spontaneity and new stuff next week.

One guaranteed way to stir trouble in our house is to break the youngest child’s concentration.

I have got completely carried away with this whole idea of swarms of butterflies and have started creating some new folio pieces. Let me know what you think.

‘Swarm’ for IF

I was thinking of going with a bit of high drama with this but decided on cute whimsy instead.

‘Sweater’ for IF

The new school year has just started here in Australia, so this weeks word made me think of all those youngest children in hand-me-down uniforms.

‘Reverse’ for Illustration Friday

‘Reverse!!’

I don’t know what it is about old people, I just find them funny. My mother was a nurse and used to come home and tell us stories about her old patients that made us howl with laughter. Maybe that’s why I keep drawing them.

‘Perspective’ for Illustration Friday

1 Mar

I haven’t done Illustration Friday since last September!! That’s terrible and its about time I got back in touch and started snooping around some of the truly fabulous illustration blogs that are out there. This is a self portrait from our dogs perspective. Last week he chewed three cushions and a handmade quilt. He’s lucky to still be walking around.

Beginning to really love this Photoshop stuff.  Mmmmm just spotted the obvious Lane Smith influence.

rabbitfoot

It’s Easter so I’ve got rabbits on my mind. This was based on a silly scribble I did for the subject ‘superstition’ ages ago. On the subject of rabbits though Emily Gravett is the absolute illustrating queen of rabbits. Her books are hilarious and fabulously quirky and interactive. Her book ‘Wolves‘ was just wonderful and I’m really looking forward to checking out ‘The Rabbit Problem‘.

Happy Easter!
