No such thing as an original thought

A couple of years ago my sister came to visit. We chatted about art and creativity as we do. She was horrified when I said ‘There’s no such thing as an original thought’. Of course the statement wasn’t original. It came from an essay I read of Shaun Tan‘s…. the truly fabulous, Melbourne based illustrator who recently won an Oscar this year for his animation of ‘The Lost Thing’. Well, yesterday I came across Austin Kleon‘s post on this subject. It’s so refreshingly honest. That statement ‘Fake It ’till  you Make It’ is just perfect.
